after claying do you wash clay off before polishing

wondering if i should wash clay residue off before polishing.

Zaino says yes, you should wash the car again to remove the lubricant film.

I think it depends on the product you use.

Meguiar's say you can wipe off with quick detailer spray.

Just hose off will do. The claybar marks will only be removed when you polish the car.

If you end up with clay bar marks, you're either not using enough lubricant, or pressing too hard (or a combination of both). In any case, you're risking scratching the paint. I always err on the side of using too much lubricant, and allow the clay to glide over the surface, with slight, consistent pressure.
