Today I had a priviledge to detail a real oldie: 1963 Mercedes-Benz 190C.
Well, actually "detail" or even "polish" are not the right words to describe the process, but maybe "enhance" would give a right image of what I managed to do. I hadn't polished this old car ever before (single stage paint), and I wanted to be extra careful. So, the result was that I couldn't get any of those deep scratches and swirls out that have been generated during years and years of use, but the most of oxidation is gone now, and the color became darker and maybe a bit shinier too . The car would need a wet sand and/or repaint to get rid of scratches. Besides, the intention was to see what can be done with polishing... The paint really has seen some rough days, and there were few spots that have been fixed and repainted. This car doesn't live for museum though, but for everyday driving during summertime! The process was: 1) Pre-wash - Korrek Lensitil BR Solvent Wash Spray - Bilt-Hamber Autofoam 2) Wash - Turtle Wax Big Orange - Two bucket method + Mother's Sheepskin Mitts + sponges 3) Claying - Zaino Z-18 clay - Turtle Wax Big Orange as lubricant - No need for full car claying though 4) Polish - Lake Country CCA White pad + Menzerna PO106FA 5) Wax - Autoglym Super Resin Polish - Collinite 915 6) Tires - Autoglym Instant Tyre Dressing ----------------------------------------------------------------- Befores: - The beauty: https://i469.photobucket.com/albums/...C/DSC07111.jpg https://i469.photobucket.com/albums/...C/DSC07114.jpg https://i469.photobucket.com/albums/...C/DSC07118.jpg - Some oxidation: https://i469.photobucket.com/albums/...C/DSC07123.jpg https://i469.photobucket.com/albums/...C/DSC07131.jpg |
