I often see on this forum guys from the US buying their car from Europe. Some of them are even travelling to Europe to get their new E60.
Because of the EUR/USD exchange rate (1 EUR=1.30 USD) i guess it's not for price reasons is it ?
So - I am curious - why ? Where do they buy from ?

European delivery is a program offered to Americans by BMWNA. We purchase a car in the normal way from a US dealer, but we first pick the car up in Munich. We can then drive it around Europe and can drop it off in almost any major city in western Europe. BMW then ships the car to the US, and we take "re-delivery" at the dealer.

In addition to the fun, fun, fun that we get driving our new cars at the speeds and on the roads for which they were designed (as opposed to pot-holed US interstates), BMW pays for European insurance and shipping the car home. Also, they often have special 2-for-1 airline deals with Lufthansa. But here's the unbelievalbe part -- if you pick your car up in Europe, you save 7% off the (already cheap compared to Europe) US list price! I saved almost $4000 on my 545.

It's a great program for us. I'll never buy a BMW any other way.

Where else can you go on vacation, get a new car to drive around in, tour the factory where its made, save on ordering ED, and best of all enjoy Europe, its beer, food and people. You are really missing a lot.

Exactly. Just did Euro delivery last week and it was awesome. Its my second ED, last one was in 2000 for a 2001 530.

This time its for a 2005 545. I saved over 9K on US sticker price and took advantage of a great lease rate and the two free tickets from BMW/Lufthansa.

Wow. sounds like a great deal, too bad it isn't offered here in Hong Kong. Btw, while you're driving in Eur, does BMW cover your insurance? or do u hv to pay extra to a third party for that matter?

BMW covers your insurance for 14 days after that you have to buy your own,I believe is 30 days at a time.I also did a Euro Deliervy in Jan. of this year. Its the only way to go if you have the time.

What stops you folks in Europe from picking up a U.S. spec BMW, under the ED program, and just keeping it there? You'd save quite a bit of euros too.

If you get caught you will wish you never did it! It can be VERY expensive.
