I got an email back from the dealer regarding pricing, so I went back to check Edmunds and BMWUSA to see if everything jived. Overnight, the prices have spike considerably - and it's still the '05 listing! Are they priming everyone for the '06 increase?
Prior to this, I had calculated the MSRP on an '05 car with the options I wanted. This is what it came to:
Invoice - $46,730 MSRP - $53,115 (I don't remember if I included dest - $695)
Today, the same exact car is:
Invoice - $50,635 MSRP - $55,365 (these prices include dest - $695)
Bogus right?
The dealer possibly screwed up too - quoting me an MSRP of $53,915 on the car, which could be the old pricing considering that number includes destination. The dealer's special price is $52,015 before taxes and tags. It's a good deal based upon this "new" MSRP and invoice, but a horrible deal based upon the old figures.
I'm trying to lock him into the math that would account for the discount between the new invoice and his offered price (only about 2.9% over invoice). Does this sound realistic?

Hmm., that's one hell of a jump .. might be the new 06 pricing .. dunno.

There is however a discrepancy between what the dealer I contacted says the MSRP is and what BMWUSA and Edmunds says. Luckily, the dealer errs on the lower side - I don't know if this MSRP is simply what they normally charge albeit discounted slightly, or whether there is still some discrepancy somewhere.
