The problem with R6 is it does not have as much torque as V8 4.4L. Both torque and hp make you feel the car fast and more punch. These makes you feels good and confident when entering highway.
Try to drive a car with high hp like S2000, but you don't feel much punch at all.

I'm sure the new R6 will give the 530 just the extra punch it needs to turn it into an awesome daily driver, especially since about 90% of the time one is just cruising.

I recently found this forum while searching for information on the e60. The site has been very helpful, being informative as well as having a nicer atmosphere than RF. I am looking for a replacement for my 2002 X5 3.0 sport.
After eliminating several other cars, I ultimately decided on the 5 series. I too had some difficulty choosing b/w either the the 530 or 545. The current lease and competive pricing on either model is making it really attractive. The 545 would be about $80 more a month than the 530, but is still less expensive than the my current x5. I decided on the 530 b/c I don't need the power of the 8 cylinder. It certainly puts a smile on my face, but in daily driving its overkill for my commute. If anything, I a more likely to get a ticket and/or drive more agressively. Neither of which would be a good thing.
For me, the biggest issue was deciding if this car would be suitable for a 70 mile commute during the winter weather months. I initially wasn't going to consider the 5 series if the AWD touring model wasn't available. (I remember how bad my 1990 325i and 1994 c280 were in the snow even with snow tires). I got more comfortable with the car''s winter performance after reading post on this forum as well as talking to some current 5 series and e class owners. I am looking forward to taking delivery in mid February (alpine white w/ auburn int).
This site has been great. thank you

Think of it like this: $6,000 for 1 more second off 0-60mph. (Is it actually a whole second quicker?) Oddly, not worth it to me.
The 530 I'm sure has decent power up hills but it has to work much harder and you have to keep the revs much higher.
Well, you guys might be right, but hey $6000 doesn't come cheap.

My Ride: Peugeot 307 1.6 16V - waiting for E60
in Europe price difference between 530i & 545i is unbelievable 18.000 EURO or 23.500 $
if it was 6000$ difference, the hell with that, I'd buy 2 of them
germany prices:
520i 35.500 EUR
525i 38.000 EUR
530i 41.100 EUR
545i 58.000 EUR
sometimes, I just hate you guys from USA, cheap bimmers, cheap gasoline
mario.

I feel lucky to be in the US for the better pricing on things in general, but envy the Europeans for the more options they can get. US = cheaper but less choices, Europe = pricier but more choices. Can't have it both ways

I still haven't decided on whether to get the 530i or the 545i.? I take both for a test drive and each had its weakness and strengths.? I guess I am just trying to justify the 6k difference in price.? Right now I can't see myself spending the extra 6k, plus the extra in gas consumption.
Those of you that have a 545i could you please tell me the not so obvious benefits of having the 545i vs. the 530i.? Just from the 10 min. test drive it was not so obvious to me.
Thanks,
Leonard.

My 530i (see the spec below) was 80.000 euros.. I could buy 1,5 545 for that money in the US.
I would go for the 545 if you can get a good deal on it..
