In March 2007, I purchased a 2004 545i Sport with 10.8k mi on the clock. It is not a CPO, but is a splendid example nonetheless. The original owner paid thousands extra for extended warranties, including an extended maintenance agreement, for which he paid $1,350. In reading the agreement, which is a standard BMW NA agreement, it is NOT transferable to a subsequent owner. So, within the four corners of the agreement, the original owner is screwed, because he paid $1,350 for nothing, and I am screwed, because the vehicle is no longer covered by the extended maintenance agreement. (Of course, it will not be an issue until March 2008, when the original maintenance agreement expires.) Furthermore, I live far from the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. Does anyone know if BMW NA might relent and transfer the agreement to me?

I believe the extended maitenance warranty actually does transfer to the new owner, from what I read on the twinkidneygrill.com website. It says the new owner must complete and mail the update form located in the Service and Warranty Information Booklet, to transfer the warranty. Check out the link, scroll down the Transferability section.

Well, I must confess that I misread the extended maintenance agreement that came with my used car. It does not restrict transferability to a subsequent owner. It only restricts transferability to a subsequent vehicle. I apologize to BMW USA and to anyone I may have misled.
