Finally got the car last night at 7pm and I've already put on about 100 miles. Apparantly, my salesperson had to tape "Sold" signs all over the car as customers kept checking it out, getting inside, looking at the engine, etc. Even while I left the car to sign the finance papers, people converged on the car.

The car is tremendous fun and much different from my e39 540. The bluetooth works great with my Razr and I think the i-drive is great although I think it will take a while for me to set the car up the way I want it. The HUD is great, you never have to look down to see your speed or to look at the Nav directions. The car came with Bridgestone runflats and they seem a bit more harsh than the Yoko's on my 540, but are quiet. The car is just fun as hell to drive, can't wait to get back in it after work. Will take some photos and post them soon.

Congrats!!!! I am glad that your dealer was able to keep the public off of your sweet new ride!

Looking forward to seeing your pix.

Congratulations! I don't think I would be able to sit in my office with that thing sitting in the parking lot. I may have to take the week off when mine arrives.

Please comment on the effectiveness of comfort access.

Congrats.

Good luck keeping it under 4500 rpm during break-in. This car is way to much fun. :P

If you shift manually from first gear, the engine rips to 5000 rpm before you can blink ... so I start in 2nd gear all the time now. Yikes. I can't wait to get this break-in period over with.

Enjoy it.

Regarding the comfort access; basically when approaching the locked car, keys in pocket, simply pull the door handle and the car opens. Get inside the car (keys still in pocket) and put foot on brake and push start button. That's it. I have not read the owners manual yet, but I believe you have to use the remote to actually lock the car (as I have been doing). Is it worth the money? Probably not. It is a cool toy and it is useful if your hands are full and can't go digging for the key in your pocket. I'm glad I got it but I wouldn't say it's a must have.

Actually, to lock the car without the remote, just exit the car (with remote in pocket) and touch the area on the door handle near the keyhole, for about a second. This locks the car. It is a pretty cool option. I do like not having to fish the remote and accompanying keys from my pocket to use the car.

markt540i 11-03-2005 07:23 PM

To lock it you have to actually touch the car door or handle area for a second? Are you sure that you can't just walk away from the car and it lock itself?

Also, when it locks as your touching the handle or whatever, does it give an audible beep like it does when you lock it with the remote?

Thanks for the info.
