Question

Thought I'd just share this weird experience with you guys.

Bought E60 Sept 2003, no plate starts BJ. Dealer phones days later to say there had been a mistake and the plate should begin BG. So I go and have them changed.

Bought E60 March 05, no plate ends OFG. Dealer phones today to say theres been a mistake and the plate should end in OFJ.

How strange is that?????

I got my J back in the end

Please explain the system to those of us who don't have a clue. I've seen number plate designations selling for quite a lot of money in the UK papers.
- how does the sytem work?
- why does it make a difference what your plate number is?
- is this the closest you can come to vanity (pick your own) plates or what???

DXXXi,

In the UK you get a registration no (License plate) for the life of the car or you can buy a cherished plate (private plate) that you transfer from one car to another at your expense. In my case they made a mistake with the same two letters on two separate cars, 18mths apart! A bit of a coincidence if you ask me.

In your country do get a different licence plate each year?

Cheers

Merv

Thanks. I am not sure about all of Canada (auto registration is Provincial jurisdiction) but in B.C. at least the plate stays with the owner. When you buy a new car, your plates are transfered.
