Always negotiate a price "over invoice" -- don't try to negotiate a price "off of msrp".
A car sitting on the lot is costing the dealer money as it sits so they're more likely to bargain -- especially at the end of the month. If you negotiate a good deal over invoice, it shouldn't matter if you're ordering a car or buying from inventory...

Most BMWs are ordered specifically for the buyer.
If you lease always check the dealer's math with Leasewizard or similar software, not Edmunds on the internet. Dealers routinely make math errors in the Chicago area or insert hidden charges or bumps. All in the dealer's favor. Even if they know that you are checking their math with Leasewizard they typically try to inflate the initial cost reduction/payment. Trusting customers at Chicago area BMW dealers routinely get screwed. They have institutionalized "good business" tactics in leasing.
If you have a question about a BMW FS lease and the math, BMW FS will refuse to answer and send you back with your math question to the dealer that is trying to cheat you. Once the cheating is over and you sign a lease BMW FS is professional in dealing with the loyal BMW Enthusaists.
