Aren't most cars ordered?
We have to pay the dest. charge anyway. Just trying to get a feel for some of the dealers pricing tactics.
Thanks,

Not sure this my first go round with BMW. I was just wondering if they try to sell them for a higher price when you special order with options you want.

Also depends on the market - what part of the world are you in? In most areas, cars are ordered period.

Really depends. In general you can negotiate down the price of an ordered car just like any other. This of course will not be true with new models such as the new X5 or maybe even the LCI E60. But you definitely can negotiate. Now you will clearly have more leverage with the dealer if you are negotiating over an unsold car in his inventory as oppsoed to a car you are ordering...

Most cars that are ordered are agreed upon, by word of mouth or scribbles on paper, but once the car arrives you can definately negociate. Dealership will also try to get a nice deposit from you, and if you don't buy the car they'll keep your deposit until the car is sold or if they have to discount the car they will take the lose from your deposit, but in reality it's all bullshit. Unless the car is like a new E92 ///M3 then you won't have a problem with paying over MSRP for a preordered 5 series. And now since the 08 5 series are starting to roll in, the only thing is the waiting time.

Definitely agree, dealer might be more interested in selling you a car that is sitting out in the lot and because of that he might be willing to offer you a better discount than on placing an order on a new car that will be delivered a couple of months from now and that won't count towards his quota until then (Not so sure about this last part)
You're right, of course selling a car that's out on the lot is the best because it's instant commission. Getting a car ordered takes time and anything could happen while the car is in transit - say a customer changes his/her mind and decides to buy from another dealership or a different car, then the salesperson loses out on the deal.
And you're also correct on the last part about counting it towards the quota, it's not going to matter until the paperwork is signed, because obviously you can't sell a car that's not physically at the dealership, but there are certain exceptions which I won't need to get into.

Haha yeah that's what I meant, but don't pay over MSRP, even for a 550i. Ask around the dealerships in your area and to see what they can do for you and then make the deal with the dealership that gives you the best pricing, but be prepared to receive answers such as "come in and we'll get you the best pricing" or "we'll beat anyone out there, just come on in and we'll talk" and yada yada yada.........
