My Ride: 2011 F10 528i - Imperial Blue, Oyster/Black, Premium, Premium 2, Cold Weather, Xenons.
Walking from the parts area, back to my auto, I stopped one of the BMW service techs out on the floor...
"Hey... You guys updated the software in any E60's to v12 yet??? "
Blank stare....
"um... New version of software out last week for my 5 series... E60... "
Oh yeah.... wait a sec...
rummages on the tool box.... picks up a stack of CD's...
Oh yeah, I think Bob loaded that last night on the service computers.
So I guess that meant they haven't tried it yet.... He did tell me that the update could take up to 4hrs, but seeing how they hadn't done one yet, I wonder how he came to that figure...
What do you guys think, do I schedule an appt and be the guinnea pig?

My dealer could never tell me what version was being uploaded or the latest version that was available.
They just tried to fix the problems at hand and if later upgraded versions were available, they wouldn't be used if they were not needed.

Well, he did say that the ammount of time depended on the number of modules (options) installed. The updater goes out, checks firmware/software for each piece and updates accordingly.
Ice, according to your signature, it looks as if it COULD take 16 hrs to update all those options...

And yes, on mine it will definately take 16 hours, my dealer allready told me.
He said something about, the update takes 6, and the testing routines the car is going through after it are taking about 10.
However, I will wait till MP3 availibility in October, since everything on my software works perfect so far.

I will wait until I have it confirmed, that there is a software update that allows MP3 and DVD playing.
I'm not going to risk anything earlier than that.

That seems like a prudent plan Ice, I think I will do the same.

I decided to get mine done now mainly because the non-pausing CD player is driving me nuts!
