Finally got around to taking a picture of the new addition. The 7 week wait for delivery was worth every minute. This car is even more amazing than I had imagined.

I have about 675 miles on her already and it has only been 2 weeks. Looking forward to the end of the break-in period

They say after the break-in period - slowly increase speed/rpms - what does that mean?

When can I safely take it to the readline - another 1000 miles after the official break-in?

Any thoughts?

You can start to push the engine now (not to Redline), but you can drive it fast up to 100 easily. Ask any mechanic that works on this engine and they will tell you it is already broken in (call around for yourself). I waited until I had 1200 and then started really pushing the needle. As long as you continue to fluctuate the speeds you are going to be fine (Don't use the Cruise Control).

My ride has 5500 miles so far and I could not be happier with the car, so enjoy your ride!!

thanks for the advise - I have been bringing it right up to 4000-4500 on a regular basis

it is scary how fast this thing gets to 100 - the power seems endless

mtosca,

Welcome to the club.
It's a wonderful feeling when that V8 opens up.

Nice car, nice colour. Do not rush with the break-in! You'll have time enough to collect speeding tickets.
A BMW engine is at its best after about 40 000 miles.

What does it mean by fluctuating the speed? Driving at various speeds?! I heard smth that when u drive on a highway to try to change gears quite often, not to leave the car only in one gear and roll at various speeds! Like in 5th from 1000-1500 rpm till 4000-4500rpm...
Is it corect? Maybe the gearbox needs time asweel to "brake in"!
