Hi guys, been gone for awhile and hasn't find one yet but I'm back in the market. I have couple question,
1. will the salvage title are still under manufacture warranty and free maintenance? (base on the year and miles it's still under warranty)
2. the car has been into an accident but did not show up in carfax report (carfax certified). but I'm sure they can identify is that good enough for them not to repair under warranty?

Thanks,

The answer to your question depends on many variables, including the state you live in as "salvaged" title means different things depending on the state. Essentiallly, a salvaged car is simply an auto involved in an accident, whereby the owner's insurance company decides that the repair costs exceed the value of the car, and hence the carrier pays the residual value to the owner and takes possession of the wrecked car. The salvage car is then sold for parts or third parties who can repair the car for re-sale. Depending on the state, any car that has been declared salvaged and then repaired should be reported to the state DMW, but reporting and enforcement various. Thus a salvaged car may not show up on CarFax or BMW's records, however, this should be rare as the Insurance Industry tries to closely monitor vehicles based on DMW and Ins. records. via the VIN number.

To answer your questions, as a general rule BMW will not honor the warranty of any salvaged car. In fact, many dealerships will not work on salvaged cars for liability reasons. Conversely, some BMW dealers will gladly work on salvaged cars, and in fact, will honor national recalls such as the passenger side seat belt and software update. It just depends. The bottom line is that if you purchase a salvaged BMW, plan on assuming the risk for all repair work, however, some insurance companies will offer repair policies for salvaged cars, although it can be difficult to find.

Don't do it. It will cost you so much more in the long run and no one will want it when you're done.

+2 Definitely not worth it. You can pick up a CPO'd 07-08 for about the same price and get the peace of mind of knowing it;s covered under warranty AND if you want to later you can actually resell it. Who wants a salvaged car? Just a guess but I am pretty sure you'll never get anything covered under warranty with a salvage title.

Not sure about your standards or requirements for power but will a 528i be enough power for you? It always seems to be the case that 525/528 guys wished they at least got a 530, the 530 guys wished they got a 545/550, and of course the 545/550 guys want the M5.

Glad you passed. The deal you found sounded like a no-go from the get go.

I know that under no circumstances will our dealership accept a car with a salvage title for trade in.
