My dealer is telling me that rattles NOT caused by a broken part are considered "ADJUSTMENTS" and only covered up to 1 yr 20,000 km.

This sounds like crap, but they sticking to it, and charging me to even diagnose the problems. This is the first time I have taken the car for any rattles; the car is 3 years old.

I am more than a little pissed. First I am disappointed that the car has so many rattles, and then to tell me I am out of luck!!!!

I thought the 4 year warranty was inclusive.

What are others' experiences?

Are you over 50K miles? AFAIK, rattles should be covered under warranty (if you are still under warranty).

I would try calling another dealership and see what their service department has to say...

I would try calling another dealership. Where is your rattle located/coming from? A bit more info might help members provide SIB's (service bulletins) that could get it repaired possibly at no cost to you....Or just tell you how to fix it yourself...

info that might help:
year of your e60
options (sport or non sport, sunshades, etc...)
where the rattle is coming from
when do you hear the rattle (speed, terrain, road condition)

There are three rattles.

1. Windshield/dash creak when Chassis flexes. Dealer replaced bolts in strut support bars, but problem did not go away.

2. Sunroof wind deflector hitting the sunroof metal frame when closed. You can temporarily stop it by pulling down the wind deflector.

3. Back seat creak/rattle when going over bump (no shades or fold down seats). I have tried to stuff rags between the parcel shelf and the back seat, but the rattle is still there.

1.) with the hood closed try pushing on the hinge area of the hood, see if it makes the noise... I dont know the fix but that will at least help the dealer diagnose the problem.

2.) Thats a common problem, the fix is have the dealer file down the wind deflector so it doesnt scrape when its closing from the tilt position. I cant seem to find the SIB Bulletin for it... there might not have been one but I know there is a fix for it. Earlier in its stage people were getting their whole sunroof replaced but that was unnecessary... It was either the wind deflector was scraping or the "cassette" that's misaligned on the sun roof... basically the tracks.

3. I have that too... Never got it fixed and I just didnt care anymore and learned to live with it... it doenst bother me that much.

I thought you said "Battle"...

I had #3 until I replaced my door seals...now I'm not sure if it just went away or I got used to it...will pay more attention in the morning.

I have this same one on my '08 535i sport package...but it only happens when the temperature is cold (<40deg F). Unfortunately, the temperature is now starting to get cold, and the windsheild creak has begun to show back up after being gone all summer...
