So I brought my 04 530 in for a recall and a paint issue. The service department said a factory rep had approved the repairs on the peeling paint on my rear bumper and they repainted it. I was very happy till they called and said that the front passenger window was having issues. I had told them not to fool with anything, because the window regulator was starting to have issues but was working fine for me; I hardly ever roll my windows down. Well, they fooled with it enough that the regulator broke and now I have to pay for the repairs. The car wasn?t even in the shop for anything to do with the windows, but they still felt the need to play with it even after I said not to. Overall I guess I?m not that upset, but to have this repair just pop on me is frustrating. The down side to the service dept is this is my best experience so far, and the next closest dealership is over an hour away in Baton Rouge. Do you think I could get an exception made and get them to cover the window? I figure it?s a long shot but maybe they will

If you specifically told them not to mess with the window, and they did - then its their responsibility to fix it.

IMO to be fair, I'd pay for just the part and make them eat the labor.

I agree with pukka in that the dealer should have refrained from doing what you expressly told them not to do. That said, without proof it might get tricky. I'd sure try to get them to pay for it though.

If you're going to have to pay for anything more than the part alone, I'd recommend you DIY it - from what I know replacing the regulator is a straight swap and the reset takes about half a minute.

thanks for the insight. since it was raining when i went to get her, I let them fix it. the service guy said he would talk to his manager to see what could be done about the cost. It should be done today. I'll update when I pick her back up.

so they gave me a discount on parts and labor. not as much as i would have liked, but whatever it was something. The rear bumper was completly repainted at no charge to me. Overall, I am happy. Thanks to all for the help with this issue.

That was very fair of them.
