I've tried to hold out as long as I can for the 550, but am getting the itch and looking at a 545i. What is a reasonable offer?

I've been reading the boards and have seen $1500 over invoice as being reasonable, with some mentions of $1500 over ED invoice. Is it reasonable to offer $1500 over ED invoice on existing inventory?

Also, I plan on purchasing, not leasing. Thanks in advance for the feedback!

My experience in leasing a 545i is that your dealer will not do $1500 over invoice. You may have better luck than me.

I think they mean $1500 over ED invoice as in they're doing Euro Delivery... not on cars already here in the US on the lot.

I paid $1000 over invioce, but it was not dealer stock, but custom ordered. However, it was a model year 2004 ordered in July 2004.

Toward the end of the 2004 model year, 4% over invoice seemed to be the norm in my area ($2500). At this time, 545is where not overly abundant and the dealers could get more 525/530's and would deal more on them.

With the 550 on the horizon, I would think they would be very eager to deal. Any 545i sitting on the lot when the 550 comes in will be hard to sell without a significant discount.

Someone posted that they got $1000 over invoice using Costco's car purchasing program. It might be worth investigating that option.

Unless you're going to do ED, ED invoice is not relevant, since the dealer only pays ED invoice on ED cars.

Given that the 550i will be produced starting September/October, I don't think $1,000 over invoice is that aggressive...I got my 545i in January for $1,000 over invoice...

Unfortunately, purchasing (vs. leasing) doesn't help you with price negotiation, since you've taken away one of the most profitable parts of the transaction.
