In case the roads are very poor (there are countries where they are) the system will be very annoying as it will trigger very often...

IMO, we have some of the worst roads in Europe, I've never had an accidental trigger.

I can't say with 100% certainty that your wrong but I'm inclined to think that you'll still have to recalibrate/reinitialize the system with any across the board pressure adjustments. (When in doubt, reinitialize, I guess.)

i inflated my tires before iceman came. well, you know how big he is . but i didn't reinitialize the system and nothing happened so far. hope i didn't do anything wrong .

I am sure you can not turn the system off. I am also pretty sure you do not need to reinitialize after you change the tire pressue. If the tire pressue is equal in the front tires and equal in the rear tires (although not the same pressure front and back) the system seems to adjust. My .02

I think this is correct. Again the system measure relative spin of the tires, so you would have to make a rather large change to a tire to set it off. If you add a little to all 4 tires, this should not set off warning, even w/ no reset. And I'm not sure it works in reverse, meaning if you way over inflated a tire, the slower spin of that tire would set off an alarm.

The tire pressure sensors used in the E60 are not transponders mounted in each wheel.? Instead, the system uses rotational sensors and only detect a significant loss of pressure.? This type of system is found on many cars (especially SUVs) these days because it's very inexpensive to implement.? The rotational sensors are already present due to ABS and various forms of traction control.

You'll be able to play with your pressures without any problems.? Once you inflate the tires to your desired pressure, you simply initialize the FTM (flat-tire monitor) in iDrive and you're good to go.

Bumping this because it seems to answer a question I have, but I'm not sure. On Friday I had my new wheels and tires installed in an aftermarket shop... they ride great but the car was reporting flat tires. The car is now in an audio shop for a week so it wasn't crucial to address this yet, but the solution is as simple as resetting the FTM in an iDrive menu? I was afraid that there were some sort of special sensors or wires that needed to be hooked up (forgive me if this is in the manual, I don't have it with me).

Just reinitialize the FTM in the settings menu of iDrive and you should be good to go...nothing has to be hooked up, etc. with the new wheel installation.

I experimented using the tire pressure settings for min and max loadings. ( 4 psi difference front/ 7 psi difference rear). I was prepared to reinitialize FTM, but choose not to just to see what would happen. So far no alarms under either the high or low settings. So I have to go along with FTM looking for the one differential in comparison to its mate(s). U could set if off with tire spin under a variety of conditions as well (ice, wheel spinning launch , etc).
