My experience, with my old '99 540i/6, is that even if you bought it at that stealership and then your warranty runs out, the Loaner option is not longer an option. I've had to rent several cars after the warranty ran out from that point forward... So, keep this in mind when you eventally get a newer bimmer. Not sure if it is a site policy or a BMW policy...

The local Nissan dealership gives loaners for major work, the local BMW dealership does not. Not even to my mate who got and M3 for his wife, and an M6 for himself. Hell, the Nissan dealership gives a taxi voucher for oil changes... the BMW dealership parked my car on the street waiting for a bay to open for oil change, and I got a god damned parking ticket (I made them pay it, but still).

Not all BMW dealerships are created equal.

that sounds right. fortunately my dealership that is 40 miles away offers "valet service" where they pick my car up at my place and leave a loaner. when the work is done, they bring my car back

That sounds like a pretty good deal -- don't have to fight the traffic early in the morning... Are you referring to the Fields BMW in Lakeland (off I-4) by chance?

If my stays longer than 2 days I get one. Normally it is a shuttle service or the wife's Audi.

Interesting thing is on the new BMW surveys they specifically ask if you A) had a loner car , if it was BMW....

So I take my car in for service for the first time ever. I bought it in NJ, I live in NY. I ask about a BMW loaner, and the SA says "Sorry, our policy is to only provide loaner vehicles to customers who purchase their BMW from our dealership. We do have an Enterprise Rent-a-car on site for $35 a day."

I don't make any arguments about it (this time - it's just maintenance stuff, and my office is less than 2 miles away), and accept a ride from one of their drivers to my office in an 09 x3. Man, did I NOT like that thing! Overuse of plastic, pop-up Nav screen. Blech.

My question though, is this correct? I thought all BMW dealers, regardless of where the car was purchased, provided free loaners (usually BMWs) to people who bring their cars into the shop for repair?!?
For regular basic service local valet to office or home is fine - I usually wait if the service will take 2 hours or less. My dealer has a business office with phones and WiFi so I'm in touch as much as I need to be. However, for warranty work, requiring extended out-of-service time, a loaner should be provided regardless of where the vehicle was purchased.

The gentle request to your SA could be "Maybe you didn't buy THIS BMW in Buffalo, but your experience may determine where you buy your next one".

I think this may vary from dealership to dealership and your realtionship with the SA. Last week when i took my car in t Sterling in NB for the pass airbag floor mat sensor they gave me a loaner free of charge (a pontiac g5) even though i wasn't expecting it since i was out of warranty, but this repair was part of that recall and BMW NA was picking up the tab.

My dealership (Bob Smith BMW) is the same, if you bought it there, they will give you a loaner, if not they will rent you an Enterprise POS rental car!

I feel pretty good about my dealership now that I read experiences above. While my car was under warranty, they always provided a loaner and I bought my car through a private party from another state. I just brought my car in for the passenger seat airbag recall and the provided me a loaner. I thought that was automatic for BMW dealers, I think you guys are getting shafted.

I don't think there is a corporate policy regarding this. It's dealer to dealer. Dropped my car off today for sensor mat recall, and they gave me a freakin Chevy Malibu. Better than the PT Cruiser they gave me when the transmission control module crapped out...
