I had the creaking noise(see my post) that the dealership misdiagnosed, but the 3rd party warranty covered to the tune of $800. SA just called and said the mechanic took the active steering apart and found a loose bolt. He tightened it and now it is supposedly fixed. The extended warranty doesn't cover this and they are charging me $300. Bare in mind, they have had my car for over a week, and made money on replacing the steering axle which didn't need to be replaced!!
This is so frustrating!! I would have no problem if they fixed it right the first time in a timely manner and charged me $300, but knowing they made at least $300 on doing an unnecessary repair and having my car for over a week really angers me!
Any advice?

They didn't fix it the first time and got $800 for doing NOTHING! I would tell the SA eat the $300 because it should have been fixed the first time!

Whenever I have to pay for a repair under the SA's advise I always authorize it conditionally. I tell him to go ahead only if he can guarantee me that it will fix the problem. So far, it has always fixed the problem.

Yes, the SA should be able to smooth this over so the third party warranty covers the work. Should be a no-brainer. Talk to him or her and explain the situation.

Picked it up today. Spoke with the service manager. He gave a little resistance, but at the end, offered a $200 credit. The price for the fix was $368. I thought that was fair, so i walked away paying $168. I'm satisfied with the outcome. So let this be a lesson to all... The squeaky wheel more often than not, gets the grease!

Good job standing your ground, making a scene is easier said then done. Its especially hard on their turf with all their "people" around.
