I'm looking to buy a fairly fully loaded 530d and was wondering if anyof you had experience of the professional navigation system with the wide screen.

It's a fair bit more expensive than the other nav options and it's not clear to me what the added value/features are?

Anyone got this - if so thoughts??

From what I was told

Professional gives you DVD reader and full map facilities with TMC auto rerouting.

Standard Nav. Only gives the arrows pointing ahead or right and no map.

Don't know if it's up gradeable though.

My E39's had sat nav voice control TV etc.

the 525 just the basic with no electronics toys I'm afraid!

Also, I believe for the E60, the professional Nav gives you voice command over CDs, phone, Nav, etc.

I just ordered a 545i in the US with navigation , i am a lttile confused, are there no map displayed?
My 2001 330CI has a map to follow the car as it travels and show streets.
Why would they not give you a map display?

If you ordered a US car then you will be getting the NAV Professional which has the maps AND the direction arrows. The Business NAV (which is not available in the US) only has direction arrows and a smaller screen.

Thanks,
Is the system DVD based? I was looking in the manual and it refers to it as DVD/CD system?

Yes, NAV Professional is DVD based.

It can accept the appropriate nav CDs or DVDs; obviously, most people in the US (or anywhere for that matter) will want the DVDs, which have the widest coverage.

Does anyone know when professional navigation was launched in the UK. I am looking at a car first registered October 2003 (UK Car), and it claims to have sat nav. Is this possible on a car registered late October 2003? Any help would be much appreciated.... Thanks
