After over 3 months of waiting it finally arrived! I have a ton of questions and I'm getting used to everything and am literally blown away at how amazing the car is and how much power it has. It has exactly 1000 kms on it as of right now. I took delivery on thursday and did a nice road trip the first night. I didn't rev it too crazy but my salesman said all this talk I hear on here about babying it til 1000 miles etc isn't needed. The car is a marvel of engineering and will certainly protect itself. I ripped it a couple times but have generally driven pretty calm. Is 200 on the highway considered ok for break-in?
Thanks to everyone who has helped ease the wait with all the advice and interesting information. I certainly have lots of questions and will have more as I learn more and read more. It really is incredible and such a joy to drive!
Here are a few pics for everyone to see. Not sure how great they came out but I will post more later. Thanks!

My Ride: '04 545iS 6 spd, bought new via eBay, 11/05; Blk/Gry, Cold, L7, PDC, BMW Rear seatcover for pets.
First "Bumwa" was a new 1971 2002. High performance 5s since 1987. Beamer motorcycles too, currently on an 07 BMW K1200 GT; also a Moto Guzzi 1000 SP III.
Looks fine, and distinctive, but your thoughts are the same as mine on those wheels....you'll need a good cleaning solution and narrow-bristle fine brush. Also is that steering wheel actually smaller or just fatter looking? I would be curious, if smaller in diameter, how it (and you) reacts with the Active Steering?
Good luck and have fun.

Lovely looking car.
The wheels look so good, but i would say that as i've got them on my car.
The 172 wheels are now the standard wheel upgrade on all M-Sport E60's in the UK for MY06. Up until now the standard option were similar but not the same & only 18".

Congratulations! Love your car. And you did yourself a huge favor by avoiding the runflats.

I will be happy to sell you mine in a few months. Maybe I will get an M5! As far as I know it is not a problem to import or export. We are a dealer and buy and sell over the border all the time. Perhaps a 3 month or 6 month time frame. But your US money is stronger then our dollar presently, although not as drastic as before. The MSRP of mine was virtually a 100 grand Canadian! So do the math. I definitely want to get an M5 within a year or 2. And obviously this is pretty much an M5 missing 2 cylinders
It is possible to import the car from Canada into the USA, however once you do the math I do not think it would be realistic. BMW pays 6.1% duty when their cars are imported into Canada compared to the U.S. duty rate of 2.5%. Also you would need to change the instrument cluster as the speedometer must be in miles per hour and not Kilometers, If the speedo was in both MPH/KMS you would be ok but just in KPH
is not acceptable for the U.S.

Trev550i, assuming your so into the m5, why did you not wait
for another couple of months to get the money (i assume that if you ordered
the m5 it would take a while to get it delivered anyway)... instead of getting
a depreciation hit from selling the 550i in just a few months ?
