I'd just want to share my experience.

Just over 1000 miles on the clock...
The car felt a bit jerky when accelerating yesterday and this morning going to work and just as I went on the motorway the engine failure symbol came up saying something like "Engine malfunction - reduced power. Contact BMW...".

According to my BMW technician the car log reported an ignition/spark failure in cylinder 5.
Some investigation showed that the fuel injector in cylinder 5 was malfuctioning and had to be replaced. They had to order a new one from Germany so I'll have to wait for a couple of days to get it fixed.

BMW assistance service was extremely helpful though. I called and the guy checked immediately with nearest car rental company, with BMW in their fleet, to see wether they had any available. Well, they had no BMW so they offered me a new Audi A4 - but before I said anything the guy at BMW assistance said "-Well, an A4 isn't really the same as your car...I'll check with another company to see if I can offer you something else! 30 seconds later he's back saying "-I can get you a new Volvo S80 D5! Is that OK?". Sure! I said..."OK! I'll have it delivered to you within 30 minutes and you can have the car until yours is fixed, have a nice day!"

So I'll be driving a Volvo for a couple of days...
Miss my E61 badly, though.

Shame about the failure, but good to see BMW are doing the right thing by you.

Must be quite a different ride in the Volvo - I'm sure you'll find your 5er even more rewarding when you get her back - and hopefully soon...

I made the mistake of not using BMW's assistance service when I had my accident (the car was driveable and the damage didn't look as though it would only take a few days to repair) so I ended up with a basic Ford Ka. In fact, I've still got the Ford Ka because the replacement panels for my car turned up at the bodyshop with damage and had to be replaced.

By the time my car is repaired I will have had the Ford Ka for two weeks - a Volvo would be luxury by comparison!!
