I lost my key for my 06 530i, how much is it to replace the key? BTW, its not the comfort access key, its the standard key.

The standard metal key key? Or the slot insert "standard" key?

If its the metal key key then its about $125.

If it's the newer remote slot key, then it would set you back about $150 in parts. Some dealers will tell you that there is a programming fee, but these is really nothing to it, so the honest dealers will not charge anything over parts.

What about the security issue ... the dealer might have to reprogram all the keys so that the lost key can't be used. One of my friends told me that a lost key on his merc cost him 800$ by the time he had new keys reprogrammed.

No way! Only way is if he hit his limit. They will only make a maximum of 4, after that you have to change the whole starter and electronics out and get a whole new setup. I got an extra fob key for my E a long time ago and it cost $160.00

Mind that some insurance compagnies ask to see BOTH keys if your car is stolen; if you can only provide ONE, than their GUESS is that your car was stolen WITH one KEY (which means insurance will be reluctant to pay one cent...... )... My best guess would be to definitely get a second key....
