I think BMW requires their dealers (at least in the US) to provide loaners, but some dealers seem to be less willing to provide them. And if the dealer gives you one through a rental agency, there's the possibility you'll get a big ass pickup truck. Meets the requirement of a "full-size" vehicle and is a cheap rental. My first loaner was a Dodge Ram Quad Cab. YEE HA!

Question

Prestige BMW in Northern NJ will give you a loaner but not a BMW. As they say "We do not descriminate"

However, they give out free Camry's and Avalons!

530iii,

Consider yourself lucky! I bought my car at Don Mackey BMW in Tucson, AZ and they only loan out Pontiacs.

This insult is on top of waiting over 2 weeks to get an appointment.

Generally not. The dealer you puchased the vehicle from is the only one who will supply a loaner.

Yes definitely! I'd been to a couple of dealers and all of them offer a loaner for me.

I'm not sure about dealer/manufacturer policies, but some dealers offer loaner regardless of where you purchase your car. Others will not do it unless you purchased the car from them. I have a loaner 06 X5 3.0i with only 600 miles on it through Enterprise Rental Car.

Service department should not consider if you buy the car from their dealer or not. They still making the same amoung of money when you bring the car in for service.

You must ask for the BMW loaner, there are hundreds of cars going in for service everyday, if you don't request for one, they will probably give you a rental car instead.

Wow....This sure has not been my experience with BMWs in the greater NYC area. You guys are quite fortunate on the west coast to have such gracious service depts. Only my original dealer will do anything
with loaners, unless as previously mentioned, it was an overnight repair with BMW footing the bill.

I have my car serviced at a different dealer than I bought it from, and I get a BMW loaner. Same thing with the Porsche dealer. If they say no, talk to the service manager--he wants your business since he's managing a P&L.

Gracious service depts. on the west coast? They charge $140/hour, so they can afford loaners!

Where does it say that BMW dealers have to give you a loaner if you purchased your car from them if the loaner is a BMW or another manufacture? I have never read anything about it .As far as I know its a courtesy the dealer provides.
cheers
