Hi Go Bimmer,
Yes, the BMW service department "should" provide you a courtesy car for the duration. At least I always get one...

Will they give you a loaner car if you didn't buy your bimmer from them?

My (now-former) dealer mentioned upon seeing this new car (bought elsewhere) that they'd only come up with a loaner if it had to stay overnight for a warranty repair--i.e. when they can bill BMW for it.
Cheers,

get BMW loaner. If an unexpected job takes more than a few days and you
did not get a BMW loaner when you drop in, your SA should help you reserve
one to switch so you don't need to drive a crappy car for long.
East Bay BMW (in Pleasanton, CA) did a great job when my car got in (unexpectedly) last time.

Service department should not consider if you buy the car from their dealer or not. They still making the same amoung of money when you bring the car in for service.
You must ask for the BMW loaner, there are hundreds of cars going in for service everyday, if you don't request for one, they will probably give you a rental car instead.

Wow....This sure has not been my experience with BMWs in the greater NYC area. You guys are quite fortunate on the west coast to have such gracious service depts. Only my original dealer will do anything
with loaners, unless as previously mentioned, it was an overnight repair with BMW footing the bill.

Freewilly, you are absolutely correct. The Service dept. do not care where you bought the car from.... They'll been providing a courtesy BMW vehicle for the past 5 years that i've owned a bimmer and didnt' buy it from that specific dealer.
