The lease on my 2006 530i (02/06 Prod) is up in March and I am trying to decide if the purchase price is still too high for purchase.

The specs on my 530i are:

22,000 miles - Jet Black - Black Dakota Leather - Steptronic - Navigation - Sport Package - Premium Package - Cold Weather Package - Parking Distance Control - Premium Sound w/ Logic 7 - Rear & Side Sunshade - Split Rear Seats..

The number they have given me for purchase is $29,500. As I understand it, should I return it, BMWFS will have to sell it at auction, which I assume given the economy is going to be low KBB at best ($25,000 -$28,000 by my read).

So, at $29,500, is it a resonable deal? Should I try to renegotiate closer to the turn in date? What is resonable here?

You can get a decent 545i for that price (with more miles of course)
This is what I would do.

If the car has proven reliable and you like it enough to want to drive it for another 2-3 years, then IMO it's good value to buy it out keep driving it. But if you buy it out and then end up trading it in sooner than that then it's not worth it. When the time is close, see what is sitting on dealer lots and make a lower but fair offer - I bet they take it. You either get the car for the price you want, or else they can have it back and you shop for a new one. Once you know what they are going for you can say, "look, these are prices of the same car on the dealer lots now, so unless you deal, I'll return it....then you can detail it, fill it with gas and add a CPO warranty and I'll pick it back up off the lot for $xxx.

Personally, I get bored and need a change every 2-3 years.

You can get a much better deal if you returned and bought another E60... Check out the KBB prices on the E60's lately... they are insanely low to say the least.
