In NA, many dealerships do not want to hold inventory of any model for more than 30 days (i.e., they don't order more than a 30 day supply from the manufacturer). What you are suggesting above contradicts what others have posted -- that they are unable to order a 545i after week 9 (i.e., there will be NO "sold 545i" after week 9 because they cannot be ordered); thus, the only 545s that are built will be dealer inventory (i.e., those that are not sold to end customers, but that the dealers will place on lots to be sold).
Only an irrational auto manufacturer would build inventory of a high $$ value car (like the 545 or 550, the most expensive e60) and not offer it for sale. This is nonsense -- BMW would go out of business if it used this strategy for its new models/engines.
