you think they would introduce a 550 same year as the new m5 with only 130 hp separating the two? i dont think so.
that canadian dealer is drinking too much beer. there is no 550i this year, and my dealer says probably not next year either

Heres a thread of people commenting on the "only 130hp" seperating the M5 and 550.
OK. Point taken. But the 45 was developed for the all new 7. If it would have fit in the E39 without much a do I think they might have dropped it in there in the last few years of production. I think the e60 will house whatever motor the E65 takes.
I must add, I do not speak from any source of authority on this subject. Just my conjecture. I have walked the aisles of the engine plant in Muinich. From a manufacturing point of view, the less engines you make the more efficient your operation from many aspects from parts suppliers to robotics. Though obviously you want as many as are reuired to meet every market niche and price point you are targeting. If the new 50 fits in the E60, they will get it in there as fast as possible to maintain market share and keep up with Stuttgart in the HP race. What logic would make them hold out for a couple of years?
The salesperson at your dealer will be the last person in the BMW food chain to know when the 550 will be available. There has been no official announcement from BMW on the 5 series availability, therefore, your salesperson cannot possibly know. He must have some other reason for sharing this rumour with you.

Looks like it's time to debadge.
In all seriousness, I was somewhat disappointed when I first heard of this news some 6 months ago, but I guess it's just sign of the times.
