He didn't say that, he did say the last week of production for the 545i is week 9, after that it can't be ordered and it is replaced with the 550i. The earliest build date for the 550i (for Canadian Delivery) would be some time in April, with delivery to the dealers after that ...

My Ride: 2008 535i: June 6th start build, complete June 17th, at NY Port July 5th, at dealer July 10th, took delivery Friday July 13- Plantimum Bronze/Natural Brown Leather/Light Poplar, Sport Package, Sport Auto, Active Steering, Premium Package, CWP & PDC. Dinan Performance Software 384hp & 421 ft/lbs.

I guess BMW read our thread(s) and agreed about E60's needing more horsepower and torque due to the onslaught of the competition from Mercedes Benz. Why else would they dump an engine after 24 months in a model line. Maybe in 2 years when my lease is up we will have a 555i choice!

Perhaps not, but he won't sell me a 545 built after week 9 because he told me only 550i will be available, which he has the option list for but not the price list ...

I highly doubt you'll get $7K - $8K off sticker. There's around 9% profit at MSRP (excluding holdback--anybody know how much holdback is on these cars?), which on a pretty fully loaded 545i is around $5K. I got mine for $1K over invoice--just over $4K discount--and believe me, it was not easy.

Assuming the 550i is released in September, you can get a 545i now at a decent discount and drive & enjoy it, or wait 8+ months for a 550i and likely not get much of a discount off the increased MSRP vs. '05 (we can only guess how much it will increase).

There will always be something better, faster--and more expensive--around the corner. I decided to buy a 545i now and am enjoying every minute driving it! And I don't have to worry about teething problems with the first year of a new engine.

You have to remember they don't care how many years or months its been in a model line. The engine itself has been out for more than 4 years and its time for an upgrade. If the E60 was a rarer car, then diehard collectors would love to get their hands on a 545i. Years from now they will say it was only made for two years. The 550i for the rest of model cycle, 6 years?.

I don't see this as unusual and would not be surprised to see a 2006 550i towards the end of this year. I can assure you that BMW will not be assembling two petrol V8s side by side. That would be like making the E39 and E60 together. I would question their acumen if they did.

It seems awefully weird that the dealer can be wrong like that... Where did they get the idea of a 550 comming out with in March build when they didnt read it in their center net or whatevers... Or did they just read new engine for the 530 and 525 and then got too excited and thought new engine for the 545 also???
