I change my front every 25,000 Kms and the rear every 30,000 Kms. I think my rate is among the highest in this forum . Just wanted to know about yourselves.

+1 even if I had money to burn I wouldnt change them prior to them being ready for replacement, unless I was taking my E60 to the track.

Hhmmm! I've just had a price from BMW to replace the front pads.....?201 Thing is I can't be arsed to do it myself, still there's 600 miles to go according to idrive.
Which brings me onto the pad life. They have lasted about 17000 miles which I think is pretty poor when compared to my old Jaguar XJ40. The front pads lasted on average 32900 miles between each set with discs replaced every 3rd set of pads. The rear pads lasted 84000 miles between each set with only one set of replacement discs. The average for the rears could have been better except for a seized caliper that ruined one set of pads and 'blued' the disc.
They told me to give them a call and they'd do it while I wait in 90 mins, and 'plug' the car in to see what else they can screw me for.

Changed mine at 6K...but that was because I changed from OEM pads to Axxis pads.

+1 for what most have been saying...change them when you need to. Driving/braking style plays a huge role on break pad wear ==>length of time between pad changing....

17,000 miles wow! i got 50K out of the Fr and 60K from the rear. You can pick up branded pads for around the ?40 mark and its a genuine 1 hour task to change.

Which makes me now wonder if they never reset the idrive when I bought the car I think I shall go measure the remaining pad thickness.
