Dude- I thought it was well established here among every other "source" out there who knows bimmers that the break-in period no longer exists on these machines. They are already tested at WOT before they leave Germany--each one. Valve rings require no "seating" and all the other crap that used to apply does not. These engines are ready to drive hard from 1mile onward.
My CA has told me the same thing. He says that each and every engine in put on a dyno at the factory and run at the equivalent of 100 mph. I am, however, still observing the break-in instructions that are in the manual.

The break in is no longer just for the engine. Yes the engines are pre broken in, however the engine is one piece of the overall drivetrain. It is set to help with the transission, differential, along with giving you time to get to know how the car responds to your input.

I am not saying breaking it in will hurt ya-but for those who dont, forgot, had a car with some miles on it-dont let that stop you from buying it. 2k miles at a dealer even if driven "hard" is still gonnna be a new car. I floored mine at WOT from 5miles and more when I got it. I am at 7600 and have not had an issue. If break in was a problem you see problems within the first 10k-such as valve leaks and other common early "overuse" problems. Trussst me I spoke to 2 bmw shop foremans here in AZ-camelback and mcdowell-the only 2 bimmer dealers here-and both verified this "under the table" as of coures technically the manual and them recomened a "break in" period.

So you upoted for 70 less hp because of 1500 bucks? Makes NO sense at all. If 1500 bucks made or broke that deal than you need some sense knocked into ya! Your gonna feel like a slug when you coulda been a little turbo

What type of deals one should expect on the 2008 550i?
As far as I remember, in the past year we were talking about $2k over invoice (non ED)
Now, I checked with 2 local dealers, and both are talking in terms of 1.5k off MSRP.
Anyone ordered a 2008 550i, how much did you pay?

How are all my BMW Friends? My name is Rick and I was looking for some info on how to install a sirius system in my car, hopefully on my own, and I came across you gentle men talking about MSRP. What really caught my attention was the fact that some of you paid over MSRP which is not suppose to happen(most of the time). There are several BMW dealers out there waiting for people like us , eager and willing to buy, to walk into their dealership. I sure hope that most of you did your homework, thoroughly, when you went to purchase your vehicle. I paid $2,500 below sticker. It was a tuff fight but curtesy and professionalism prevailed plus I did my homework. The second fight was the finance department and I did well there also. The car had 26 miles on it.
On another note the car is awesome. I love the speed, among other things, but the lack of the sports package takes away from the responsiveness of the vehicle. I settled for the XI versus the sports package because I had a 2002 525I for 4 years and the winters were brutal even with deticated snow tires. I'll probably buy 18" sport rims and tires soon and use them for the summer. Overall the car is awesome!!!!!!
ps. If anyone knows how to install the sirius radio please let me know.
Thanks Rick...
