It's because the premium models are always in demand and don't need discounting.

When will they start to discount the 2006 550i?? Maybe in January 2006?

And they'll probably start offering lease incentives when the 2007 model year is close...
I bet lease incentives start appearing in January 2006. Lease rates for the E90 have gone down. The 530 rates have gone down as well. V8 models are not in demand at the moment.
I got just over 4% off my 550i. Got the M body kit for 1890. Not great but not bad for a new badge that they are having to wait for allocations. Everywhere else was either sticker with long waits or 2% off.

$66K for a 530 seems awfully expensive...get a 550 for that much cash.
(and $1200 to $1500 above invoice seems very common)

And with the current USD-Euro value the difference is absurd
The problem is 2006's have been around in the US since March (like this one, which is an April build), because BMWNA decided to call the E60s with the new engines "2006" models, when they're really the same as the 2005 models everywhere else.
The "real" 2006's started with September 2005 production, just like the rest of the world. So it's a lot easier to find a used "2006" in the US, even though March-July US 2006 production are essentially 2005's (and indeed are called 2005's everywhere else).
Nice marketing, BMWNA.
Still a good deal, though!

The main reason was for the engine upgrade.....
The 2005 lacks in power.....and after terrible comparisons with similar sedans in the market BMW decided to up the engine in the 2006 model....
The only difference between a 2006 pre-september and a 2006 post september is a start/stop button....so they are all indeed "essentially" a 2005 with a few upgrades....
you found a used 2006? wow...
