I've owned both. If the numbers work for you, the 545 is more fun to drive. All of my driving is in the city. My MPG in the city is 17, but I drive aggresively. The 545 is awesome, but the 530 is a fine ride also. It is a matter of dollars. The e60 is a wonderful car.

Its such a shame you guys don't get diesel, the diesels are the way to go, making petrol obsolete. Some day soon the M5 will have a big block of diesel engine undernearth.

That was me who did the last message, I also heard that the 535d beats the 545 around nurburgring. Not supprising really when the 530d can beat the 545 from 50-75 0.4 seconds. Imagine what the 535d is like (can't get figures). Torque is very very important for normal driving.

I never could understand buying a $60, 000+ car and worrying about how much the gas cost. The difference between average 20mpg and 25mpg car is roughly $300/yr at 15000 miles/yr and $2 gallon fuel. $300/yr can only be a small fraction of your yearly car cost (payments, insurance, tires, etc.)

Fine if you live in the good ol' US of A. We'd all have a big fat V8, I'm sure.

Not fine if you live where your fuel is equivalent of $7+ a gallon.

Sorry but the U.S. will not be "going diesel" on a large scale for a long time to come, if ever.

Availability/distribution is a huge issue, and the savings too minimal to make a difference.

I think we (US) are moving toward hybrids and they will leapfrog the diesels in fuel economy.

What's that about a 530d beating the 545 at the Ring?

HELLO PPL

HELP ME DECIDE...

SHOULD I BUY THE 2005 MODEL OF

545 WITH SPORTS AND NAV AND AUTO
OR
530 WITH SPORTS NAV AUTO PREMIUM XENON

which one has a better value for money?

whatabout in terms of gas mileage? does 545 have so bad gas mileage? i heard 545 has valvetronic but does it help pretty much compared over the 530i?

OR SHOULD I EVEN WAIT FOR THE R6 ENGINE WITH 258 HP IN FALL 2005?

All 545's come with Xenon and I believe the sports/premium packages are not seperated on the 545...so it looks like the only difference you are talking about is the engine. And I would go with the 545...
