This sounds like nonsense to me. I would most assuradely get the Service Manager and then BMW involved. How can programming a key component (sorry for the pun) not be covered under warranty?

Yea thats what I thought...I originally got the new key (warranty replacement) a month ago. And, as I left the dealer I noticed the Comfort Access wasn't working and I brought this up to my service advisor. He told me to just drive the car around a little with the key in the slot and it will program itself, this sounded like BS to me, but he assured me it would work. Of course it didn't and now I'm trying to get the key programmed and they are saying its an hour of labor @ $127/hr

I don't want to have to get BMW NA involved, but if I have to, then I will. This is absurd and unprofessional, especially considering they didn't mention anything about it until now...

insert fob into slot, but hold it in for 20 seconds, before you release the tension. then start car.

Not for CA. CA requires dealer programming as far as I know.

Tell them to un-program your key then because you're not paying.

I also just had my keys replaced under warranty - and I quickly figured out that the Comfort Access was not programmed.

So I was back in the shop 10 minutes later and they programmed them without any hassle. Good job Fields BMW.

It took about 40 minutes. The second SA (the one that knew what he was doing) said they needed to delete the old keys from the system first, and then get the new keys recognized.

All this hassle just to get a key with a proper roundel on it. For 75 cents they could make a stick-on replacement.

Good luck.

That's BS. Tell them you don't want the key anymore and leave.
