In germany, the costs of comissions to the sales people and cost of the dealerships add approximately 10,000 euros to the basic price of a 535d. ie via the BMW website, the base price of a 535d is 51,000euros in germany (which includes the 10K).
HOWEVER, in Germany it is possible to buy your car from 3rd party organizations (not official BMW dealers) via the internet. In the eg of a 535d, the price is 41,400 euros for a brand new car !! so thats 10K less than at the dealer.
On the website of these 3rd parties, u can configure your car, and order it. And you dont even need to make a downpayment. The car is built and delivered in 8weeks.
Has anyone ever done this or thought about it? Do the members in the USA also have such an opportunity??
My feeling is the reason these 3rd parties exist for new BMW's is for the Factory in Munich to have the guarantee that ALL their cars will be sold.

This is an example of one such 3rd party site : (this example is not only for BMW's). A friend bought his car via this website - it was a golf 2.0 TDI brand new for 18,000euros, which would have been worth 26,000 euros at the dealer.

I did. Best thing I ever did.
Its no different from buying instore except that you dont get it from your local store. Brokers normally sell cars for dealers situated in remote areas where customers are not enough for them to meet their sales targets.
In fact after the sale the broker puts you in contact with the BMW dealer direct and then from there on it's like a normal sale.

A colleauge from Germany uses this approach. He has bought a Fiat Punto, VW Passat, and now an Audi A6.
All no problem, and heavy discount...not bad. ( He lives in Germany)
But for people living in Holland we still have to pay BPM import taxes...so the savings are minimal.
On a BMW 535d the savings would amount to 4000euros on a brand new car.
On a lightly used car 1-2 years old however, the savings are significant !

Another advice to people is to try the following. Get a broker to quote you on the base car only. Once he puts you in touch with the dealer negotiate with the dealer for the options. You may get a better deal this way if the broker is operating on commission of the sale price. Ofcourse if the broker gets a fixed fee per car sold it makes no difference.
However I would recommend going this route, it poses no extra risk than buying via your local dealer.

Will those German websites entertain orders for RHD cars?? Can the dealer process MwSt refund when the car is exported outside of Germany?
Yes they should be able to order a Right hand drive car for u. And u dont need to pay the MwSt in germany. u get the car fully without tax and export plates to be sent to the UK
