Well since it's clear that BMW has changed it's policy from when I originally posted in this thread, I'm going to hopefully get mine replaced too. Thanks to everyone for the information -- I'm going to print this thread and show the dealer...

Found small buldge on sidewall of Bridgestone RF at less than 10K miles when car went in for first servicing. They now say I can only get 1/2 price on tire replacement ($388) because it was > 5K miles and I would have got nothing if over 10K mi, which it is now. They admit it was a defect in tire construction, but I can't even have the same deal LATER, IF the bulge gets bigger and the tire fails so it will cost 100% to replace.
Comments?
I want to go non-RF ASAP. Had the car 1 year, 10k miles. No other complaints about tires.

Treadwear is minimal; it's like I've worn off some outer rubber layer and gotten to some compound that's rock hard.? The Michelin Pilot Sports (non RF) on my 330i were never this loud, even when they had 30,000 miles on them and almost no tread left.? I'm very curious to know if this is a BMWNA thing or just an isolated dealership greasing a squeaky wheel.

Mine is a SMG car and a March '04 build, no tire problems with 10,000 miles on them. I have the Dunlaps RF.

That's great News! Is this problem just happen on the 545 or It may also happen with 530? My 545 has bridgestone tire and my 530 has dunlop on them.

Just to update this thread for the benefit of others, I was able to get BMW to cover 100% of the replacement of my noisy Dunlop runflats with new ones from Dunlop.

At first, BMW only offered 50% reimbursement but I asked the dealer to see if they can do any better. They went to bat for me and got BMW to agree to step it up to 100%.

Obviously, I'm happy now. Time will tell whether or not the same problem occurs in 7000 miles...

I have had winter tyres (with spikes) on for about 6 months now (Good Year 225/55/16) and have just put on my summer tires (Dunlop RF 225/50/17 - about 500 miles on them). There is a quite noticable increase in the road noice, which is not what I would have expected since my winter tires have spikes... I have seen on this board that others have had their tires changed but judging from the signatures it seems to be mostly for 18" tires. Have anyone had their Dunlop 17" RFT's changed due to the annoying road noice?

Hey Guys
I have heard that some others have had this same problem with the BMW tires making weird noises, often after 10,000 km.
One link that came up for me was when I was researching the runflat tire issue was www.bmwtirenoise.com
Hopefully you can garner some information from that site as well.

I think it's the other way around...

The service bulletin that came out about the Dunlop tires was created because of this forum.

Hi guys,

Has anyone got anywhere trying to get replacements from BMW UK? I noticed a few threads from a while back indicating BMW UK are pretending the problem doesnt exist - is this still the case? I have the Dunlop runflats on my 545 and at 10.5K the inside edges are down to about 3mm, but the outside edges are 6mm+ and look virtually new. There is also a fair amount of road noise, but I'm not sure if this is because of the wear.

I have only done about 800 miles in the car since buying it approved used from a main dealer. Should they have picked up and sorted the uneven wear at the pre delivery check? Does anyone have a list of the checks they should have done, and what depth/wear requirements the tyres should meet?

Thanks,
Steve

Our 545 sport w/Dunlops was in the dealer for multitude of electronic gremlins & they mentioned to us the tires need replacement (which we knew, and were already looking for) but they told us that BMW was only replacing Bridgestones & that the Dunlop was the preferred tire! And they said either way we were out of luck as we have more than 10k on it. It's not the first time this dealer has flat out lied to us though (South Bay BMW in Torrance California) so I don't trust anything they say. We're just going to replace the tires ourselves (with non RFT's) as arguing with this dealer is a nightmare. They don't want to fix anything they don't have to... of couse this means we're likely to not buy another BMW, especially from them.
