After 9 weeks of waiting, picked up my 550-6 yesterday. First stop (at 3 miles on the odometer) was my friend's garage lift where I switched the shifter to a Rogue Engineering SSK/WSR setup and replaced the clutch delay valve with a Zeckhausen modified version. Taking my time, it took about 3.5 hours car on lift to car off lift.

In the two miles prior to the switch, I did note that the stock shift throws were a great deal shorter than the stock shift throws on my e39 540-6. BUT, the Rogue SSK on the 550-6 is snick-snick sweet.

1,170 miles til break-in is done.

Hmm, Biff, this is curious. I went straight from my E39 right into this 60 and my first impression was to feel that things were more "insulated." I discounted this as just getting used to the take-up point on the clutch and the new bushings of the shift linkage. But, thinking back over past 5s, it seems each has become more insulated and cushier than the previous, but I guess that's "progress." (If not Lexus...)

What I have STILL not gotten over (at 5K miles) is the cramped footwell--owing to the expansion of the wheelwell into the footwell. I continually strike the dead pedal with the edge of my (size 11.5) foot as I am trying to clutch. Nobody else here seems to be bothered by this, (maybe most have SMG) but I find it very disconcerting and distracting--to the point of being a safety hazard in traffic.

I'll be interested in hearing your "adjustment" progress. Have fun.

Cheers,
Ray Hull

Yah - not overly concerned given the stoutness of the manual gearbox.
