Hello All,

I'm a new here and I'm in the process of looking for a 04-05 545 6spd manual. Black/Black. My question is, I was down in South Carolina last week, and I ran into this fellow who was selling his car. It was exactly what I was looking for, and then some. He had the MTech Kit, and the 166 wheels. The car was GORGEOUS! It is an 04, CPO, with extended service plan with 38K miles on it.

He told me he was asking $36,900 for the car. I thought it was too much. This was not at a dealer, it was a person trying to sell his car. Do you think that this is a fair price for this car? All of the other cars that I see, are priced in the $32- 34K price range, but don't have the Wheels, or MTech kit.

Please let me know what you guys think.

:)

Oh crap,
If you're going to buy that car for that much, you can buy mine for $31K. It's got CPO, the mods in my sig and the extended maintenance package. I've got all the records for the car. It's has 39K miles.

He's asking too much. Around $30K - $32K would be fair.

That's crazy. I just went to look at a very similar car this past weekend. The car was GREAT! The seller is asking around that same price, so I think that is what you are going to find for a car equipped like that. I really wish I was able to pull that one off. :-( The guy was very nice about everything. He let me drive his car, and he explained everything..

Good Luck with your search.

I traded mine is Nov 07 for $32K, that sounds like a high price given the prices were dropping pretty quickly then.

I agree. It can't hurt to bargain with him. The worst he could say is "no", and then you move on. Also, check to see if he's done some of the extras like tranny fluid changes, diff fluid changes, extra oil changes etc. If he did do those things, then maybe that's why he's pricing his car that high. Also see if he's kept all records of maintenance, does he have NAV, if he's got bluetooth active, etc.

It seems like that might be a little high considering I paid just slightly more for mine and mine was a 2005 and not a 2004, however mine didnt have the M-Technic kit and 166 wheels when I started, so you got to factor that in the deal. Best bet is to shop around autotrader.com for cars local to your area, see what the price is on similar cars are being advertized for and also look up the value with all the options on www.edmunds.com as they give you true market value to the area.

One thing to note is they dont take into account the M-tech kit and 166 wheels when pricing out, so you may want to offer 50% of those items added to the cost you come up with on your research. That is assuming the wheels and kit are in good condition.

Click onthe link above. It will give you a some-what of a good idea, not 100% but a ball park. I listed all the best options too. Aditional parts on the car, dont' add value to the car no matter what you say, or who says.

Reguardless of what bumbers it has, and any extras, it should play a MAJOR role in the price....the car being CPO, it would cost any car about 3,500 , but please don't quote me, to get the car CPO by the dealer. All they do is a normal check up, over look it, make any changes to it, repairs according to CPO standards, charge for them, then the original cost of making the car CPO.

I hope this link would help and give you somwhat of an insite plus don't forget it's not 100% accurate, it usually is price a little high as well.

That's actually a statement. But HECK NO, that's not a good price!!! Adding mods to a car is like adding a pool to your yard. It adds almost no value to your property and in some cases actually hurts the value. Personal enjoyment is the only value that comes from it.

The price sounds a bit high for a 2004 545i, the MTech kit and 166's DON'T add to the price, so they should not be factored in. CPO is a must, but I would also strongly suggest a CARFAX report and have the bodywork checked out by a reputable body shop. I have heard of cars with body kits put on after an accident to make the car more "saleable", it's probably NOT the case, but a little peace of mind never hurt. Welcome to the brotherhood BTW and good luck with your shopping/decision!!
