Sam,
Best pics ever! It's really nice to see some 545 specific pics like the steering wheel. I was considering replacing the shifter knob with the wooden one because of lack of metal trim in cabin. I heard about the wheel in the 545 but it is really nice to see a picture. If I could trouble you with a request and a couple of questions.
Request pic of that beautiful V-8 please!
1. Thoughts and feeling of 545 ride and handling without the sport package?
2. Are those tailpipe tips bigger on a 545 than the 530? Anyone? Duals would have been nice
Thanks for the pictures!
Rob

Here's a pic the V8 for you. (I have other angles if you wish). It's funny but I think the E39 V8 looked bigger visually -- not that this looks small by any means!

Sorry, out driving!! I've got few of the engine bay below. If anyone has any advice how to position myself for really good engine shots, I'm all ears. My other half came to visit this weekend (don't ask; married 1+ months and we live in separate cities right now). She was a big fan of the '00 540i and I'm extremely happy to report that she is completely in awe of this one and thinks it's beautiful inside, outside, and to drive. I think I'm lucky to have someone that knows what they're behind the wheel of and she handles it great.
The smell is very sweet, indeed. I'm still taking it pretty easy, about 300 miles in. The ride is both silky smooth and wonderfully communicative. It never lets you lose touch with the road underneath you. I'm starting to get hints of what that "bottomless pit of torque" will feel like when break-in is complete. So far, there are two sources of minor frustration (both Nav-related) and all else is heaven. One is I'm not yet finding the most efficient way of cancelling guidance without holding down the last-repeat button, and the other is I'm not efficient yet on finding a landmark in a certain city or town (listed in "Info on destination") and then navigating to it. Sometimes I can't even locate the 'nfo on dest.' menu choice and don't yet know the correct point in setting new destination when that selection will appear. Hopefully it will just take some playing around with it and practicing.
I've got my first service date next Friday to figure out what's the matter with BMW Assist; the car wasn't able to send any data needed to activate the service. I've got dinner reservations to make and flowers to send, so I sure hope they get it working quick!

sj3,
It's not that intuitive but the menu for the information on destination or current location is part of the "new destination" menu.
I'm doing this from memory but give it a shot and if you have trouble, I'll go out to the car and get more specific.
To stop navigating, just press down on the address that you are currently navigating to and uncheck the "start navigation" box. Again, this is from memory so I may not be exact on the phrases, etc.
