I just picked up my baby from the dealer for an active steering failure light, rattling noise coming from the AC compressor, passenger restraint light stays on and a brake job. My warranty and service expire May 31 08. The dealer quoted me $3400 to extend the warranty. I'm not looking to extend the service contract since the brakes were just done and I don't plan on keeping the car for more than another year. My question is $3,400 the going price? I might decide to roll the dice and stay without the warranty for the coming year. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

There have been a few non-bmw warranty's discussed in the threads. I would a quick search about that also....I'm sure members will chime in also, but I've seen some members mention extended warranty's for almost 1/2 the price you got quoted by your SA...

I paid $3,900 for a 4 year extended warranty with a $100 deductible through Classic BMW in Dallas, texas. If your car has less than 36k miles, you may be quoted a lower price

If you are not going to keep the car past the next 12 mos I would not buy a warranty. Just get it with the next 5er you buy

I recently purchased a Mercury extended service warranty (mechanical) and I paid about 3400.00 for it. I don't have a deductible (paid extra 160.00 for that) and the warranty is the one my closest dealer (Crevier BMW and Long Beach BMW service). 60mos/100k miles. Now this is 60 mos from the day I bought the warranty (Feb) not from car in service date. I think the 100k miles is based on what is currently on the car (40k) so I have 60k to go. I did extensive research on each item that the warranty covers (they really hate me at Mercury). My factory runs out next Jan 09. I have thought about a "service" policy but hope I can get brakes before the factory runs out.
