Greetings:

Before you rush off and buy a new set of replacement tires for your vehicle towards the end of your lease, be advised (1) you may not need to replace all 4 tires (the rear tires tend to wear faster than the front tires) and (2) instead of buying new tires, in most cases the dealer whom you will work with will only charge you $200/tire (this is a lot cheaper than paying $ 375-475 per run flat tire if you bought them new)....just a tip....I had my preinspection and was prepared to pay $ 1,600 for a new set of 4 tires but found out from the dealer I would probably only have to replace the rear tires at a cost of $ 200 each, or $ 400 in total, this saving myself $ 1,200 in the process.

to clarify, the $200 per tire would be the fee the dealer would charge me for excessive wear at the end of my lease in lieu of purchasing a new tire at a higher cost.

You can also buy used, run flat tires online for much cheaper. The price varies depending on how much tread is left, but BMW sends you an exit package prior to your lease ending, where they tell you how much tread must be present before returning. You can search for various tread depths and pay under $100 per tire. Do a search. You'll be amazed at how many online vendors sell used tires.

I did this on my E39 and it worked like a charm!

Take a look at the attached .pdf file in the following post:
http://forums.e60.net/index.php?s=&sho...st&p=471415

It's the official BMW FS lease-end inspection form -- it outlines the tread depth requirements, etc.
