My Ride: Ordered: 2006 530i on Oct 1st, and due Mid Nov. 6 speed Manual, Navagation, Premium pkg, Sport pkg, Cold Weather pkg, Prem. Sound Package, Titanium Silver, Black Dakota Leather, Dark Poplar wood. 18" 7 Spoke wheels (style 123), euro reflectors, Sat Radio installed.
Sorry for chiming in so late in the topic, I myself am a newbee (great help from the guysand gals though in this forum).
I was also just in your situation...which to choose, a new 330i or a new 5 Series... You might want to go one step further and look at the 530i. Because the performance becomes much closer. I am a broken record, but the weight of the 530 and 330 is almost 40 lbs, so with the bigger motor (well more powerful motor) you are now talking tenth's of a second difference. 6.4 v.s 6.1 if you talk stick shift... It's peanuts...
I was getting a price of 40 bucks more a month for a 530i with good options...they just won't discount the 3 like the 5 I am afraid. So in the end...I am gaining
1. More room, shoulder room is greater and I feel less restrained. bigger backseat for the passengers.
2. Bigger truck
3. I think (IMHO) a more stylish car. Who cares if people love it or hate it, it's a presence on the road. Everyone knows those headlights are NEW BMW. Another thing about styling, now I feel the 3 less character, than a 5.
4. Plus that famous heated steering wheel, you don't fin don the 3.
It is my opinion right now, on leases, the 5 is a better value, over the 3 for sure.

Do rent a car until your 5 is ready. It will be worth it. I will be doing the same thing in about a week. The cost of renting may be about the same as a car payment would be. Then you will be even more stoked to get the new 5 after driving a rental for 2 months. Maybe your dealer can get you a loaner or something? I doubt it, but it's worth asking.

Well unfortunately here in Canada the leases work very differently then in the US.For the price i'm paying here for a 525i I could be leasing a 545 in the states no problem...
The price difference on a lease between a 2006 525i and a 2006 530i is huge. I can or get a 2006 525i fully fully loaded like I ordered or get a 2006 530i with no options whatsoever NOTHING except for leather because that's standard in the 530i and the 530i will still cost me about 230$ more a month!!!
The dealer actually have an Entreprise rent-a-car booth in their dealership so they are actually trying to see if they can rent me a car at "VIP" pricing until they receive mine....
I should get an answer from them on this matter by tommorrow, so we'll see what they come back with.

My dealer told me not to worry about the car i am leasing now. I am supposed to return it on 11/10. He told that if I dont received my car on time not to worry. I can make drive the one i am leasing now. Of course, i will have to pay for my monthly

Please allow me to chime in here. You've gotten a lot of great advice thus far, but I think some of it misses the point.
As you note above (and in your earlier posts) it is not simply a comparison between the E60 and the E90.
What you are deciding is between the 525 and the 330. From a power perspective, and pure driving experience, I think the 330 is the better car in comparison only to the 525 (not any other 5er, esp. the 530 or 545/550).
I recall, if I am not mistaken, that you were the wrong worried about the 525 not being quick/fast enough for you. Well, the 330 will not give you those doubts.
That being said, what others have mentioned about the E60 v. E90 in general all ring very true -- the 5er has better build quality, sharper looks, more luxury, etc.
Good luck with your choice.
