Yesterday I just realized that my new-to-me CPO 550i has no front license plate. I don't mean that it wasn't mounted (which it wasn't), I mean there is no extra plate I could install on the front if I wanted to (which I don't). Should the car have come with 2 plates, even if the front wasn't installed? If I get pulled over for no plate and get a ticket I have no way to "fix it" other than order a new plate from the DMV, which I'd guess would be at my expense.
Should the dealer have provided this, or noted this on the DMV paperwork when they submitted it so that I'd get a replacement plate?

It depends on the state. Some states don't issue front plates. Was the car originally from a different state?
Otherwise, it just means that the previous owner didn't want to mount the front plate and probably discarded the thing.

I'm in CA so technically a front plate is mandatory (boo). Don't worry, I plan on getting the retractable system so I don't have to drill into my bumber
I stopped by the dealer today and sales advisor was surprised and said he would check into it.

If your state issues two license plates and the dealer only provided one, I'd get this issue resolved ASAP. Someone else could be using your license plate illegally.

Let's not be _tupid, man. Everyone knows the weather will erase those numbers/letters. Get a DREMEL tool. Go all the way thru the bumper; put a light behind it. Bingo, you now have a cool lighted tag. (unless all the digits fall off)
