I recently bought a new 530d auto (e60). I had the previous model (e39) 530d auto and it was superb. The new one has the most infuriating "characteristics" (as BMW describes them). These characteristics are "normal" and if they annoy you then you're going to be stuck with a car that appears to be faulty.

The transmission has a software glitch that makes it 'confused' when you've come to a rolling stop and pull away in a short time. This causes the car to crawl out of the junction and then suddenly decide to change into 1st gear, this feels like you've been hit in the rear. It is also quite frightening if you decide to pull into oncoming traffic assuming you'll make it in your powerful new BMW, the delay feels like an eternity when trucks are heading towards you flashing lights and sounding horns at you.

As if the transmission was not enough the exhaust system has a particulate regeneration system which sounds like the exhaust has a hole in it - this happens about once per tankful of fuel. When it operates the transmission changes its shift points. I've sent it back to the dealer 3 times assuming there was an intermittent fault until I found out that it was intended function.

Now you probably buy a diesel because it returns good MPG as well as all the power, these "characteristics" mean that I get 24MPG at best compared to 35MPG from my e39.

Think twice before parting with your money!

those are way too strong words Oscar. But basically I see no problem with your car.... You only have a little problem with your tranny which can be solve easily by software update.
other then that I see no problem with THE CAR....

If you had to live with this car day in day out you wouldn't say that.

Are you a dealer?

I had no cause to complain about my previous car I think that speaks for itself.

Oscar,
there was no problem with your E39, there is one (which can be fixed) with your E60. I had exactly the same problem, ZF did a gearbox software upgrade and the problem was solved.

Why remain unhappy with the car when there is something you can have done to fix it?

It's been back to the dealers for reflashing of the ECU's and to me the whole car seems sluggish, it is very thirsty and the exhaust sounds like there is something wrong with it, the fact that it changes the gear shift points bugs me - maybe my expectations are too high but I just expected better for ?36k
The performance is not as good as my previous car. It has a few other problems but the transmission must be at fault - after 6k miles, reflashes it still does not behave as it should.

How do you check the level of CIP?
