Hello,
My rear brake pads is wearing thin and noisy but the computer says I still have 11k mi to go.
I had an independent mechanic inspected the brakes and he said it's time for new pads and rotors.
My car has about 5k mi left before warranty expired and my dealer wont replace it because the computer says it's not needed yet.
Anyone has any success getting the dealer to replace brakes before the computer says so?
This whole comprehensive maintainance from BMW is a bunch of bs because the set the idrive count down at some crazy interval that all BMW pratically has to do is changing the oil while your car is under warranty.
Thanks.

Talk to your SA in 4850 miles. If the problem is worse then, that will be a point in your favor. Usually, BMW is pretty good with issues being corrected under warranty just as the warranty is about to expire. IMO, only.

There's a sensor on the brakes, Once the sensor notices the brake pads are too thin and need to be replaced they will do so.
If your independant mechanic says it's needed, ask him if he knows how fast BMW wear down or not, and if he knows how fast they wear down, ask your dealer to check them and to check the sensor!
If your dealer says they are OK and don't need to be replaced AFTER he has taken a look at them you're fine.
I highly doubt your independant mechanic allthough I don't trust idrive at all.

I actually had a problem with the brakes squealing about a month ago and there was a little more than half the pad life left. My SA told me to make another appoint to leave the car and they will replace all the pads on the car even though the computer was saying I had plenty of mileage left. So I guess I was successful with having the dealer change them even though the computer didn't say to.

Yes you were, I have taken my car twice to the dealer for squeaking brakes - my car sounds like a stuck pig - and each time they said it was "normal" and they couldn't change them until the computer told them to (which at my last visit was 13K more miles)

My idrive says my rear pads have 35K but my dealer and an indie mechanic said they were low. The dealer says the sensor must not be working. Also, the dealer quoted me $270 to replace the rear pads. Isn't that a little much?

DIY it, replacing pads isn't that hard and if you shop around you can find a little shop to turn the rotors for cheap - place near me does it for $6 a rotor. So that plus pads (around $60) and you can get it done for a fraction.

This is an easy one-happened to me. Computer saying not time to change but happened to be my car was sitting at their shopt for 3 weeks and didnt want to bring it back 2 months later. They said no. So I asked for measurments of rotors and pads and what the bmw minimum recomned specs were. Every corners rotor and pad was under spec-rotors too thin, pads to thin so bmw is obligated to replace if you are still under maintence plan.
You get them to give you the numbers on paper-then there is no debate.
