Hey guys,

For those of you looking to purchase an Extended MAINTENANCE plan, not to be confused with WARRANTY, I got myself what I think is a very competitive price. My local dealership tried to sell me on on a $2699 price tag, but if I buy from them, $2500. I called around the COUNTRY as any BMW dealership can sell you one, and the best I could get was $2,195. My last call was to a John Cutler at Walker BMW. Not sure if I can post his exact price but it was substantially lower than my dealership in the tune of around 25%, and I didn't have to pay tax as I would have if I bought it from my dealership. Give him a call if your interested at 318-441-4013. Good luck.

hi there,,,

What kind of warranty bumper to bumper + maintenance free include?

jpmotdyn 02-02-2010 08:24 PM

There is a dealer offering the extended maintenance for E60's for $1895.00.

PM me for details as i dont know if we are allowed to post that kind of info. I believe their cost on the maintenance in $1795 and you have to get it before you hit 4yrs 50k miles. You can go up to 5yrs/ 60k miles for an additional $200.

I thought extended maintenance was always an additonal 2 years & 50k miles? What is this 4 years and 50k about?

jpmotdyn 02-03-2010 11:06 AM

If you purchase the ext maintenance before your car hits 4yrs or 50k miles you pay $1895 on an E60, if you have more than 4yrs or 50k and are before 5yrs and 60k they charge you an additional $200. The coverage is only good till 6yrs or 100k, whichever comes first.

sorry but that isnt true, they told you that to charge you more

as long as you get the plan before you hit 4 years 50k you can get the additional 2 years 50k

also their cost on the plan is $1695 and most dealerships charge $1995

Sorry but here is pricing as of July 2009. Shows dealers net of $1795 IF you purchase before 4yrs/50k and dealer net of $1995 if purchased before 6yrs/50k and after 4yrs/50k. I believe $1695 was their old pricing.

And an additional 2yrs/50k = a total of 6yrs/100k :)

wow you are correct, they changed it up a bit

when i got mine it was $1995 from the dealer and dealer net back then was $1695

looks like the dealers will have a tough time selling that.

So far ive had done through this plan:

Oil: $150
Oil/Air/Cabin filters: $120
Wipers: $80
Car checkup: $100

total of $450

Through my CPO, negotiated down so it didn't cost extra

Battery: $650
Seat Sensor mat: $1750

and paid just 1 $50 deductible

The dealership here in San Diego quote for my 08 535I around $2700 for extended Maintenacnce and $3200 for Engine/Powertrain protect 2yr addition to your current and 100K. Is that pretty pricey? Where can I get everything like what I have now 4ys/50K. Should I even need the extended warranty, if so should I get just the engine/powertrain only or both?

EBMCS03 07-01-2011 03:35 PM

I just purchased the extended maintenance plan from John Cutler from Walker BMW. Excellent price! Very competitive.

Bayerische Motoren-Werke 07-15-2011 11:27 AM

I also called John Cutler, really nice guy, he quoted me at $3,901 for the 7/100K on the platinum extended warranty. Probably going to jump on this by the end of the month. I just got this car, so I can't roll the dice when the factor runs out while still making monthly payments.

What does the Platinum include vs BMW Extended warranty?

BMW extended warranty does NOT cover electronics to include iDrive. In my case it also doesn't cover HUD and Night Vision.

^This is not good. You mean to tell me that if I do go ahead and shell out the $4K on the extended platinum warranty, and my CCC unit craps out, I might be faced with a over 3K bill? I have HUD on my car too, and it's quiet disconcerting that the platinum warranty would exclude these items.

How many of you non CPO guys, such as myself feel that this warranty would be advantageous?

I'm faced with a dilemma at this point, should I:
(A)Buy this warranty and hope that those omitted items don't fail?
(B)Shop for a cheaper third party warranty? I know this could be a bad idea.
(C)Put my 4K in the bank, and make some room on my credit card in case I suffer a catastrophic mechanical break down that would cost over $5K?

I'm just thinking about every possible worse case scenario, as these car are money pits when something breaks.

Let me clarify - the CPO warranty doesn't cover electronics. It looks like BMW is selling you a 3rd party service warranty.

Usually, a "Platinum" warranty is exclusionary, so you have to read the section that defines what is NOT covered. I've seen such warranties specifically exclude the HUD and state they will only pay $300 toward any other electronics failure. READ THE FINEPRINT VERY CAREFULLY and ask the salesperson if this warranty you want to purchase includes these items.

I'd also be suspect of any warranty quote that doesn't require submitting your VIN first.

Bayerische Motoren-Werke 07-18-2011 10:53 AM

The warranty I got quoted on was the "Platinum" extended warranty from BMW, not a third party. I just stated that I was surprised that even though the Platinum is their elite level warranty, it omitted the iDrive, HUD, and night vision.

I didn't know BMW sells its own warranties besides the CPO. The BMW dealership I use sells warranties through Fidelity, I've had good experiences with them on my wife's MB.

Bayerische Motoren-Werke 07-18-2011 11:17 AM

Yes, they do have their own manufacture warranty in the form of POWERTRAIN, SILVER, GOLD, GOLD PLUS, and PLATINUM. BMW does offer third warranties through them if you are not looking to go the pricey factory extended warranty route.

I have heard other members mention fidelity, but I was burned by GE, a third party warranty when I had my Acura Type-s, they did not want to cover anything. I told myself going forward I would only buy the manufacture extended.

EBMCS03 07-18-2011 05:19 PM

So what is the CPO warranty equal to?
POWERTRAIN? SILVER? GOLD? worse than POWERTRAIN? haha
