i have on clock 115 000 kms and all is ok for now. my friend have also 530d and 150 000 kms all ok.
my car was built in my 2004..530d. the most important thing is that never turn off engine if you have been like on highways and drive fast.. when you stop let them in neutral to work 3 min or more ...

Believe me i always take care in that matter.
The 525 TDS, 320d, 525d, 730d were all running ok for a long time. The 730d is around 200.000 kms at the moment ....

Ok now i'm really angry with this car !

Yesterday went for a little drive near town, and then after a roundabout shifted from 2nd to 3rd pressed the gas to 2.500/3.000 rpms and the Horror movie started...

Car went like crazy the revs went to 5.000 rpms, a lot and i mean a LOT, of white/grey smoke, speed incresing, lots of noise from the engine, and i was in the middle of some cars...

Got to leave the main road to a secondary road and then managed to stop the car braking and keeping the 4th/5th gear...

Engine stopped, smoke from the exhaust, smoke from the front ....

Got the car towed to the dealer .... car is under warranty until 1 st June... i'm waiting for the info about the engine status.

75.000 ?, 530d, 1st June 2004, 96.000 kms and more than 30 days (in 23 months) stopped in the dealer to fix problems....

What the hell is this ....??

Sweet jesus - your cars a couple of months younger than mine as well (this is one of my biggest worries)

ARGHHHH but ............the good news is it's under warranty. Relax with your loan car in the knowledge that your e60 will get whatever repair it needs at no cost to yourself.

Now they say that the problem was caused by an injector problem.

Some kind of electronic/electric problem that produced 2 injectors to fail then a big quantity of fuel was injected to the engine and it wasn't all burned then some of the fuel was sent to the exhaust system ..???...!!! ????
What's this ? Does it sounds ok for you guys ?

They have to replace 2 fuel injectors and the turbo...

They didn't mentioned nothing about the exhaust system !!!
Isn't supposed to be checked ? Is it going to run ok if its contaminated with diesel or oil ? The particle filter and the catalisator ?

Something is wrong.... and i have no replacing car yet....

It sounds strange, because you where seeing large amount of white/gray smoke, this indicates that the engine was burning oil.

If you have a catalisator, and there was oil burned, the catalisator is damaged.
But I don't know if the 530 has a katalisator, because not every diesel has a katalisator, unlike a petrol car

About damage to the partikel filter is not known to me.

Why do they have to replace the turbo if only the problem was that there was a large amount of fuel? sounds very strange to me...

good luck

Sounds to me like you just need to sit down with the service manager at your dealer and have him explain this to you properly.

Your car is under warranty - so you should be expecting it back good as new with all of the damage put right. You should also have a loan car - if your dealer doesn't have one - ask him to hire one for you and bill it back to bmw as part of the warranty claim.

Yesterday i was supposed to get my car back ....

They called me and informed that 2 injectors and the turbo were replaced but they found out that the "pre catalisator" and the "catalisator" also have to be replaced.
So, one of the spare parts is arriving from Spain tomorrow and the other one will arrive from Germany next Tuesday (7 days, if no delays happen) ??!!!! What the hell is this ??....

I will keep driving my replace car .... Ford Focus TDCi .... i'm getting used to him .... maybe i will buy one.

And yesterday got to test drive a AUDI A6 3.0 TDI QUATTRO.... Wow... that Quattro system is really something ...
..... and find out that my 75.000 ? BMW is now rated around 45.000 ?, 40% lost in 2 years ..... i will go for the Ford Focus.....

Luckily Tuga you still have the warranty on your car.
I hope you've served your car at the dealers.

The old E39 (530d, MY's -00 -02) used a lot of turbos
but the factory did handle the problem.

But I guess the defected sensors broke the turbo and
the catalyts.

Try to keep your nerves!

The Audi A6 is not as good of an car as the E60.

Ford Focus - you must be joking!?

Maybe you should testdrive the new 530xdA?

PS. My one year old €70k 525iA is now worth €50k!!!
