Autoglass about to fit new windscreen

I have a big crack on my 530d M sport windscreen. My insurance only covers it (with ?50 excess) if Autoglass do the repair. I phoned autoglass and they said that it is exactly the same as the BMW glass made my Pilkington but without the BMW logo. They said it would take 1 hour to fit with the rain sensor by a top grade (grade C!) expert and 1 hour before I could drive it.
They will do it at my home.
Has anybody else got any experience of this?
Many thanks
Nigel

I've got repaired by autoglass a couple of times and were no problems. I've never changed it but I am sure it would not be any problem if you do not mind not having BMW marked windscreen. It would annoy me a lot.

Are you sure it is not a stress fracture?
There have been loads on the E60/61, starts from the very edge and works its way inwards, no sign of any stone chip or anything.
If it is then it is warranty work and you do not have to claim on your insurance.

Don't really know what else I can do to get it on warranty!

I thought it was a stress fracture - but I have taken it to 2 dealers and both say it is due to stone chip. You can't see a stone chip though!....

It is all very well saying insurance does not penalise you for windscreen claims, but I beg to differ, I bet they make a note of it.

oh I feel for ye... I had the same thing happen but the BMW Dealer said that it was not down to a stone chip but that because the car had 16k miles on it that it couldn't be a stress fracture so wouldn't replace it under warranty... complained to BMW UK but they just took no notice!
Had it replaced with Autoglass and man was it a bad job they did it at my place of work and didn't fit the top strip properly and it flew off when I was going down the motorway then at speeds above 50 there was a loud whistle. When I got home and looked the screen wasn't fitted properly and had slipped (this was after leaving it for a good 5 hours to dry). So I had to take the car to them for someone else to do it. So be careful

I had mine replaced by Autoglass, no problems at all. Also they give a good guarantee. To be honest I would have thought a professional car window fitter who fits a few a day would do a better job than BMW themselves, who I doubt do that many.

There is a big difference though, autoglass use standard kit to put the windscreen in where as BMW use their dedicated seals, they also leave it for 48 hours to bond, autoglass let you drive away with some tape holding the screen in straight away!

If you have advanced air conditioning you will need a new mist sensor
