As I start shopping for a CPO e60, I'd like to know what options I have when I negotiate. I'd like to push the dealer into throwing in the extended maintenance contract for free, but I'm curious if anyone has ever been successful in doing so. Of course I don't plan on eating that cost by paying too much for the car overall, I'm just looking for more areas of negotiation to get the out of pocket costs low.

I don't think they can do that, they actually have to buy it from BMWNA. Although they will probably just raise the cost of the car to absorb it.

I could be wrong though, haven't tired it personally before.

I got my car CPO, I didn't negotiate extended maintenance - I just have it for some reason. The dealer I bought it from (Monrovia) tried to sell me the extended maint. but I refused. Since then I have taken my car to McKenna several times and they have told me I have maint until 03/11 or 100K, so apparently I have the extended maint without even trying. Maybe the person that owned my car before bought it?

The BMW Extended maintenance program follows the vehicle - so, the previous owner may have paid and you benefit ... sometimes life is just soooooo good

Bummer. I was hoping I could get them to throw that in. Anyone know what the going rate is for the extension? What's the lowest you've heard someone getting it for, besides free if you're pjinca :-)

Very true indeed. Both the BMW CPO warranty and Extended maintenance package carry over with the car itself, regardless of owner.

On a side note.. you can actually cash out the remainder of the maintenance package.. prorated I would assume.

According to the contract I signed, the maintenance package cannot be cashed out. To the OP, it may be impossible to negotiate a free maintenance program, but you can certainly shave off a good $1K from asking price with the proper negotiation skills.

Okay, this is an easy point to clarify. No matter what freebees you get, they are never, ever free. Someway, somehow they are going to be worked into the deal and are almost never negotiated after a deal is put to bed. When I bought my M3 convertible in 2003 they threw in a free wind screen, bra, chrome plate frames and a cover. After loooking over the deal a few months ago I realize that I got a major reeming. Remember, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A FREE LUNCH.
