Hello fella bimmers,
I've been getting high battery discharge warnings for a couple of weeks on 2008 535i. Date/time and trip data have been reset almost daily today needed a jumpstart. Car could be driven 10 miles out, parked for 4 hours and driven home, but the voltage reading is 12 V with engine off. Last week was 14.x V engine on and 13.x engine off. Tomorrow morning? Will find out. Like to claim warranty coverage and need some useful information. Is battery covered under warranty? What are the alternatives if dealer denies warranty replacement? I've been eyeing this lightweight battery for sometime. I am in the hypermiling mode (yes, I know this is the wrong car for that, still shedding any dead weight I can eg: spare donut, jacks etc...and getting on the right side of the power to weight ratio of the equation) Anyone know where I can find the OEM battery specs? In addition, has anyone had success with these lightweight batteries? http://www.europeanautosource.com/in...a&filter_id=23 Thanks in advance! |
I had the exact same symptoms. I had them charge it once and the problem returned about a week later so the battery was changed. And yes, as long as you are under 4 years/50,000 miles the battery is covered.

It took about any hour to fully charge (12.4v before and 12.9v after) and it's only been almost 24 hours but the daytime and trip data are holding!! More time will tell, much better this way than to put up with all the non-sense from the dealer. |

Maybe I've been spoiled by the dealer I've been working with for 20+ years. IMHO, anyone who buys or leases a $50-$90K+ car should be treated with the utmost respect and courtesy  . Good customers don't grow on trees (though some of them swing on 'em ) |
NEW BATTERY! NEW BATTERY! NEW BATTERY! I'm getting a NEW BATTERY!!
God bless my SA and Shelly BMW! That made my day! :) It shouldn't be this diffucult with the car still under warranty, but a trip to a second dealer yielded better results. |
